BURGHCLERE  BAROQUE


Burghclere Baroque is an organisation formed by Theresa Caudle in 2020 to promote the performance and study of baroque music in the beautiful, peaceful surroundings of the village of Burghclere in rural North Hampshire.


Chamber Days and Orchestral Days provide the opportunity for keen amateurs to get together to play baroque music, coached or directed by well-known baroque violinist Theresa Caudle, either in her lovely music room at home or in the larger space of Burghclere’s village hall, The Portal Hall.


Concerts bring world-class performances of baroque music by professional musicians to the local community in intimate settings such as the Church of The Ascension. Aspiring to minimise the carbon footprint of the performers as well as our audiences, whenever possible we involve the many talented musicians who specialise in performance of baroque music who live in Hampshire, Berkshire or nearby counties.

The village of Burghclere nestles in stunning verdant landscape close to the North Hampshire Downs with views to the south of Beacon Hill, Ladle Hill and Watership Down.  It is easily accessible, lying five miles south of Newbury and close to the A34 Tothill junction, but is a lovely tranquil place to visit to make or listen to music. Burghclere is home to the National Trust property, The Sandham Memorial Chapel, with its famous murals by Stanley Spencer commemorating the First World War.  Also in the centre of the village is the Church of the Ascension, built in 1875 and which has fine acoustics for music, and The Portal Hall, built in The Arts and Crafts style in 1890.  The Carpenters Arms is the local hostelry, and offers Bed and Breakfast as well as good pub food.
