Once Covid-19 restrictions allow, Theresa plans to hold occasional day courses for baroque orchestra. If you would like to be added to our mailing list to receive future details and dates please contact theresa@burghclerebaroque.com

Theresa will direct from the violin, giving guidance in matters of baroque style – tempo, phrasing, articulation, intonation, etcetera – as well as generally holding things together and enabling a mutually enjoyable day of music-making!

Each occasion will centre on a different theme and well-loved staples of baroque orchestral repertoire such as suites by Purcell and Concerti Grossi by Handel and Corelli will be on offer as well as chances to explore lesser-known music. Some sessions will be for strings and continuo only (up to two harpsichords and a chitarrone) and some will include wind.  The pitch will normally be A 415 and players will be expected to use baroque instruments, although string players on modern instruments with gut strings and baroque bows will also be welcome. The standard will be intermediate – advanced and participants will be expected to be reasonably technically competent and confident sight-readers. However, you will be advised of all the repertoire in advance and copies or links to the music will be sent by email.

The days will start at 10.00 and finish at 4.30 and will be held at The Portal Hall, Burghclere. The first session will run from 10.00 - 1.00 with a break for coffee or tea and biscuits.  A buffet lunch with a good selection of soups and salads will be provided at the hall, and will be followed by the second session starting at 2.00, culminating in an informal performance and followed by tea and cake at 4.00.  The food will be home-cooked and we can cater for special dietary requirements so long as you let us know your needs in advance.

The cost of the one-day course, including all food, refreshments and (non-alcoholic) beverages will be £30.
